Rock You Like A Hurricane

Hello MIRKins!

Hope everyone has survived the hurricane and for those who have had some damages, we wish you the best of luck with your clean-ups.

We have received the first draft our the music video we shot last week for Beautiful Music ft Mr. Cheeks. There are a couple minor tweaks, but you can expect a sick final cut from us very soon. Here a some screen shots to give you a taste...

We also have been mentioned in The Source magazine from when we played Ghetto Metal last month. Check out the mention and look into Ghetto Metal...one of the coolest shows we ever played and they happen monthly in NYC.

We had an amazing rehearsal on Tuesday where we worked on our new album GRIND.

Before rehearsal, Mike and Kate were scarfing down some food, when they noticed a secret behind a room-divider. Out of sight, out of mind...

The album is finally finished, and all we have to do is prepare for the best live show we can give you. The album is scheduled to be released at the end of October and we should be having a killer album release party...but that announcement is for another MIRK Monday.

On Friday, we played on McGeary's new outdoor patio.

For those who haven't been to McGeary's let, please head down to Pearl St and check it out!

On the following day, we traveled north to Saratoga for Travers at the track. The place was packed and was very eager to dance to some new live music.

We were lucky enough to rock a whole set before the rain seemed too close for comfort.

The following day, Irene showed her teeth, but MIRK flashed em back. We rock so hard, we knock down trees...

Our next gig isn't until Sept 16th, so we won't see you out until then. However, we will be in the studio rehearsing our sexy butts off to get ready for an awesome album release party.

You might also find us wondering around at DAYGLOW at The Armory next Thursday (hint hint)...but who knows?!?

As always, thanks for tuning in and we hope you comment and like us on facebook.

We were sent here to get it in...

Hello MIRKins!

So this was a crazy week! We started it off right on Tuesday by shooting a music video for "Beautiful Music." This is a new track off our new album, Grind, featuring Mr. Cheeks from The Lost Boys! Shoot out to our amazing director Michael Dispenza!

We started the shoot at The Armory in our rehearsal space...

We then headed over to John Keal Music Store. In the basement they have this really cool music grave, where old instruments go to die. Josh was spittin' some of his verses buried in some dead instruments. Kate and Mike had better ideas of how to rap it off camera...

A break was needed, so we headed over to Justin's for a bite to eat before our show there. Chris became inspired by his meatloaf and mac and cheese to take over as the leader of the band.

While we were waiting for Cheeks to arrive at Justin's, our good friend Pat Murray was rocking the acoustic guitar and warming up a crowd. He needed a pee/beer break, so Kate decided to continue the entertainment with her version of Natalie Imbruglia's Torn...

Once cheeks got there and we kicked the show off and the crowd went crazy. We did a couple of takes of 'Beautiful Music' and then rocked the show with a full set.

For followers of the blog, you are aware of what Plirking is. One of our super fans, Lindsay, is constantly challenging herself with her plirking abilities...

Now that's impressive!

After the show, we went to Hudson Harbor for a sick restaurant/fireplace scene with Mr. Cheeks...

It is very difficult to keep your sanity when you are shooting late into the night. Mike lost it real early...

We finished up a very long day/night of shooting at the Armory and called it a wrap!

On Friday, we returned to the track in Saratoga. Last time we were here, the super crazies came out of the woods to dance with us. This week, we got a brand new crazy fan.

The best part was his freesytle rap during Breakfast (video unavailable). We will be returning to the track this Saturday, August 27th for Travers. Come see us and whatever crazies decide to party with us.

On Saturday we played at one of our favorite venues, Elda's on Lark. It was Kate's bday at midnight so she got a special plirking present

We also have a new term to add to the MIRKtionary...

Mirkgin (n) a person whom has never seen MIRK live, a person who clearly lives under a rock, a person with their MIRK cherry still intact

Where were you when you lost your MIRKginity?

So our new album GRIND is finally finished! We will be announcing the release date and party very soon.
We settled on the name Grind for the album because it is very fitting. We had tossed around the title "From 19 to Cougar" because all ladies love us from age 19 to cougar. We have now decided to expand our demographic to the much younger crowd, and we think it is working...

We will be playing at McGeary's on Friday night. Come to an awesome bar for a patio party and show!

That's all we have for this week. Again, remember to comment and 'like' us on facebook.

The Mirkins Never Sleep

HELLO MIRKins!!!

So this was a fun week! On Tuesday we were scheduled for a video shoot with Mr. Cheeks for our new song, Beautiful Music. Unfortunately, Josh had a family emergency, and the shoot had to be postponed...TO THIS TUESDAY!

Here is the info on it:
"Alright! Let's try this again...VIDEO SHOOT FOR BEAUTIFUL MUSIC feat. MR CHEEKS!!!! We'll be shooting all day around Albany... and ready to take the last shot to Justin's on Lark Street! We'll see you there, free show and crazy time.. come for the video shoot with our homie Mr. Cheeks, and stay and watch us perform! Crazy Tuesday"

On Saturday, we returned to Graney's Stout on Broadway in Albany. Steve was unable to play with us because he was enjoying some Georgia peaches, so our good friend Kurt from The City Never Sleeps helped us out.

The rest of the guys from TCNS helped us out too by starting the show off with a kick ass set!

And because Steve wasn't there, it gave Josh and Kate their moments to shine on the kit. Check them out in these videos!

Also at this show, two new terms were coined....

Plirking (v): the act of lying face down atop an object, landmark, animal or other person related to or close to the band MIRK, then stiffening one's form so that one's arms are firmly held by one's side and toes are pointed; taking on the physical characteristics of a plank.

MIRK-aholic (n): a label given to an individual whom enjoys the music of MIRK and being in the presence of MIRK so much, they rather be there than receive a blowjob...

This week we will be returning to the Saratoga track to play outside by the Shake Shack on Friday, August 19th. Come lose some money, get drunk, and dance!

The following day, we will return to Elda's on Lark Street! Show kicks off around 10:30 and at midnight, it will be Kate's birthday! This week she had her car broken into and $2600 worth of items stolen from her, one of the items being her trumpet. So please come support MIRK and buy Kate a strong drink!

That's all we have for you this week. Please come out Tuesday to the video shoot at Justin's, Friday to the track, at Saturday to Elda's. You will then be a MIRK-aholic and it gives you three chances to Plirk.

All I Wanna Do Is Drink Beer For Breakfast

Hello MIRKins!!!

So this week at rehearsal we finished recording the last bits of our last song on the album!
Most people get their game faces on when they record, Andy puts on his game socks...

Mike was getting ready to play his guitar part, but ran into some pedal issues (nothing new for him)...

Josh finished his desk and put all his debo equipment in it...doesn't it look hot?!?!

It makes the studio look ridic amazing!

Speaking of Josh, in a conversation with his friend Nate, this came up...

Josh "I felt like everyone was looking at me"
Nate "Of course everyone was looking at you... You look like Eazy Fucking E!"

The resemblance is crazy! What do you think?

Anyway, back to Mike's guitardness...he felt like the song we were recording needed a guitar solo...this is what he came up with...

On Saturday, we went to Saratoga to play at the Many of One festival. While we were waiting for everyone to arrive, a couple of issues fell out of the sky.

Even though we played in the pouring rain, we had a great time!
Unfortunately, while stopping for gas, our van got reversed into...doesn't look too good.

In this week's Metroland, in the Eye Saw U section, there was this...

Sound like anyone we know?

This Saturday, August 13th, we will be playing at Graney's Stout on Broadway (right across from the Beer Garten)
We played there maybe 2 months ago and this place is amazing! Absolutely gorgeous, great food, great beer...you would never guess this place used to be a furniture store!

That's all we have for you this week. Please check out our website and facebook for updates and as always, keep spreading the LOVE.

Is That A Hula Hoop In Your Pocket Or Are You Just Excited To See MIRK?

Hello MIRKins!!

This week was..interesting to say the least.
The album is officially MIXED! (boom)...The final step of finishing the album is getting it mastered!

Will it be done soon? It might take a little bit of divine intervention...Mike is on it.

Our boy Robert is currently working on the art work which is baaaangin!

This weekend was The Big Up music festival in Ghent NY. We decided to play a little gorilla set under the dome by the Tree Shurts and Grassroots merch tables.

The Tree Shurts staff decided to give their Winnebaker a bit of a makeover..

Mike is not a fan of the hipster hippies...we didn't even unpack the van yet, and Mike was over the scene...

When he got his Some Girls Get High t-shirt, he seemed to wake up (does this pose look familiar?)

Mike wasn't the only one who realized we weren't in Albany anymore...Tara was a little reluctant to share her opinion, but the gong vibration tent, seemed to set her off (the video starts out sideways, then Mike realizes it so hang in there)

Mike and Steve decided to try it out
Pre-thoughts:

Post-analysis:

Chris Russell seemed to be all about the scene. It brought out his dancing shoes.

Speaking of shoes, what about Russell's socks? (also starts out sideways then gets fixed...fucking fix your shit Mike)

This scene was also a good opportunity for our good friend Pat Murray to break out HIS hipster shoes. How comfortable are they? "On a scale of 1-10, they are sex"

On the way to the festival, we passed an antique store that we thought was called "Period Pickers" which provided an entire car ride worth of funny material. We were very disappointed to find out it was "Period Picks" on our way home, but that didn't stop us from cracking jokes.

Also on the way home, Mike started to feel sick. We pulled over for him to purge himself of his disgust for hippies. Of all the places for us to pull over, this is where we did and what we ran into...

Josh is going all out fixing up the studio. We have seen the new paint job, the vocal booth window, and now he is building his own desk. Check out the progress he is making...

This weekend we will be at the Many Of One music festival in Saratoga at Lee Park. Check out the website for more info! We play on Saturday!

That's all we got for you MIRKins...
Thanks for tuning in and don't forget to comment and share!
